What Older Generations Need to Know about Millennials
Another part of young culture is a built-in diversity. Millennials expect racial, ethnic and cultural diversities in all settings of their lives. They have grown in a multi-cultural society that didn't necessarily exist before to the same degree that it now does.
Simply because of that difference, communication across younger and older generations is inherently more difficult than communicating with contemporaries. Diversity is a subject with which older generations are going to have to become more comfortable. It's accepted in today's society and in workplaces. Many organizations and companies strive toward it as a major goal - and the Millennials want to see that.
The last thing Carroll noted about the Millennials is their belief that they can and will succeed at anything they try. The youngest generation currently in our society has grown up being told that they can do anything they want if they put their minds to it.
This may make the workforce newbies seem over-confident and entitled; however Carroll said they have always been told they can do anything - so they will achieve whatever it is they set out to achieve.
